Week Three Notes and Week Four Agenda

                Peace be with you!

It was really nice spending time with y’all Saturday morning enjoying breakfast together.  Although I’m hopeful the weather is a bit more cooperative Saturday for our walking, jogging or running (I promise we’ll get one nice day this semester!) the extra time to spend time in the word and take a meal with y’all was a great alternative.

Last week we determined our Missional Core Values would be:

1.       Sharing the Gospel
2.       Discipleship
3.       Sacrificial

Please spend a few minutes of your quite time considering how we will put these into action…

To summarize our core values:

Core values around family:

1.       Pray
2.       Eat
3.       Love

Core Values around Spirituality:

1.       Dedication and Commitment
2.       Desire to know God
3.       Consistency

Missional Core Values:

1.       Sharing the Gospel
2.       Discipleship
3.       Sacrificial

We also decided to participate in a few fun events in the coming week!  Super fun!

2.       Capital 10K March 25th  (Run on a Sunday)

If you have not registered, please register ASAP.  The March 3rd event will serve as our meeting but we will not have a reading assignment that week.

For week four (Feb 25) please read the following:

·         Living with Impact (page 40 – Experiencing Christ Within)
·         Luke 3:10-14 (Trust in God – concern for others)
·         Matthew 6:9-10 (Lord’s Prayer)
·         John 14:13; 15:7-8 (Glorification of Christ)
·         Romans 8:16-17; 15:7 (Glorification of Christ)
·         Ezekiel 1:26-28 (Glory of God Revealed)
·         2 Corinthians 3:17-18; 4:6 (our new birth – What can you expect to happen in your life as a result of these truths?  What can you trust God for?)

A well-known Irish blessing…

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.  Matt 5:15-16

Fitness Club

I am working on a club for the students at Windermere. I would like to start a fitness club. I have spent time doing boot camp with some of the after school program and they thoroughly enjoyed it. I was thinking of a running club and possibly a sport club. I think a kick ball team, basketball, or even a bike club would be great. I have been searching for volunteers for some time, and have yet to find someone to help me. A majority of these kids are not involved in any extra curricular activities, simply because of cost. I want to get the parents involved as well. If this is something that interest you or, if you know of someone that it would fit, please let me know. I welcome any ideas and input.
Thanks so much,
Angie ;0)

This Saturday there will be 2 mi and 5 mi options. Both routes are out-and-backs on neighborhood trails (see the first map). The routes start at the Pflugerville High School parking lot (see the second map). After our study, we will drive over to the high school, park our cars, and run/walk together! If there are any non-study runners/walkers, they can meet us in the high school parking lot at 7:25.

After we finish running, we can meet back at the high school parking lot. From there it is a short ride to a good breakfast spot on Pecan Street!

See you on Saturday morning!

The Future of God's Glory

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

Week Two Notes and Week Three Agenda!

Peace be with you!

Some might say “you must really be committed to get out there on such a cold and blustery day!”.  It is true, to see results one must commit to doing the work during the good times and bad.  Not only do we achieve our goals quicker but the satisfactory for ‘job well done’ is just a little sweeter when we know we followed through with our dedication and commitment.

I’m really proud of all of you for knocking it out Saturday, y’all motivate me!

Interestingly, the previous sentences could have be said about both your willingness to exercise and your willingness to share time with your brothers and sisters celebrating the Word of Christ.  I thought about our core values as I struck out on my run Saturday and how each resonated with our time both in the Word and on the road Saturday morning…

Core Values around Spirituality:

1.       Dedication and Commitment
2.       Desire to know God
3.       Consistency

You may be asking yourself how number 2 could possibly relate to our exercise…  I for one routinely pray while running.  It serves as both quite time to reflect on God glory, the blessings in my life as well as the areas of growth I’m in such desperate need of His grace.  For walkers, there are couple books that have been written on the subject.  I have not read them but here’s a link if you’re curious.  There are numerous books out there…  If you happen to read one please share with the group!

It was great to have Cindy and Elaine join us!  Please let me know if you would like to remain on our email list and/or participate on the group’s blog.

We spoke a bit about putting our core values around family into action.  A few ideas that were introduced in the meeting included:

1.       Breakfast after a Saturday meeting
2.       Running in a 5K or 10K

With that in mind, next Saturday 2/18 we will go out for breakfast after our meeting.  Megan will have more details around exercise routes later in the week but the thought is we will try to end our time on the road at similar times to facilitate the breakfast.  More details will come out this week.  Feel free to make suggestions for a good breakfast joint.

There are two “races” coming up soon that a walker/jogger/runner friendly.

2.       Capital 10K March 25th  (Run on a Sunday)

We can discuss both a Saturday’s meeting but if you’re interested in running the 5K race and want a shirt, sign up before 2/19.

The scripture to be discussed during the group this week is:

1.       Leviticus 10:3 (God speaking to Moses)
2.       Romans 1:21 (Paul’s reasoning for God’s wrath)
3.       1 Peter 4:11 (giving gifts)
4.       Ezekiel 1:25-28 (Manifestation of God)
5.       Psalm 29:1-9 (God’s glory manifested)
6.       Philippians 2:1-11 (Imitating Christ’s Humility)

The Agenda for Saturday’s meeting:

1.       Open with prayer (bring a blanket)
2.       Brief discussion on "Spirituality Core Values – putting them into action".
3.       Discuss core values for living missionally.
4.       Discuss the 'week two - A Reputation at Stake' selected scripture
5.       Discuss 5K/10K options for group fun walk/run.
6.       Prayer
7.       Walk, Jog, Run!

Great First Day!!!

Acts 20 : 24 - However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me —the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.

It was great to spend time with y'all today - Way to brave to conditions and knock out your first miles!!!

Our core values around family are Pray, Eat and Love.  Spend some time this week considering how we can put those values into action and bring a few to next weeks meeting or, better yet, post a few ideas on the blog!!!

Next week we'll spend time discussing our core values around spirituality.

God Bless and have a great week!!!

First meeting First run

I am very excited about this group. I was able to almost jog the whole two miles and for me being out of commision for 5 months that is huge for me. I cannot wait to grow spiritually and with the added bonus of getting myself healthier again. Thanks Amy

First Meeting Saturday 2/4/2012

We will meet @ the Church @ 6:30 in the lobby.  This week we’ll spend a bit of time getting know one another, defining our group’s core values around “relationship of a family” and discussing our strategy for the church wide study of “Experiencing Christ Within”.  If you already have your book - you DO NOT need to bring it with you this week.

We will begin our walk, jog, run (perhaps a bike…?) @ 7:15.

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Hi Everyone! Below is a map of this Saturday's running route. There is a 5 mile option and a 13 mile option. (Actually you can run a portion of the 5 mile route if you want to run less than 5 miles and you can run the 5 mile + a portion of the out-and-back if you want to run more than 5 but less than 13 miles.)

Almost the entire route takes place on the Pflugerville Trail system. I have marked on the maps the locations of bathrooms and water stops. I'll be setting out a red water cooler with cups in Bohls Park and there is a drinking fountain in Northeast Metro Park.

I'll bring printed maps for every on Saturday morning. See you then!
